About Holy City Art Glass
Our Story
Tom Stanton graduated from San Jose State University with a bachelor's in fine arts, where he discovered his passion for working with glass. He had one goal in mind out of school: to start his own studio. As a Bay Area local, Tom wanted to find a place where he knew his work and presence would mean the most to him and the community. That's when he discovered Holy City in the hills of Los Gatos with his wife Maureen (pictured right).
Holy City
Nestled in the Santa Cruz Mountains is the infamous ghost town of Holy City. Tom knew that this would be the perfect place to start his business. Conveniently located off of Old Santa Cruz Highway, Holy City Art Glass became a hub for the community. It was a pit stop on the way to Santa Cruz where you could watch demos, purchase ornaments on your way up the hill to get your Christmas tree, or just to enjoy the scenery and beautiful artwork throughout the years. The shop also became a "sanctuary for artists and misfits" according to Tom. Artists of all kinds flocked to Holy City to hang out and work their craft, and Tom became a bit of a legend within the art community. His works became known nationally, as did his unusual personality.
The Legacy
Sadly we lost Tom in 2015 to a battle with cancer, and the building was emptied. This is not where the dream ends, though. His youngest son Andrew has dedicated himself to continuing the legacy to the best of his ability. Having worked in a studio from a young age, Andrew honed his craft studying in Murano, Italy, as well as under the guidance of Bobby Bowes, whose work has been featured all over the world. Andrew produces artwork at various studios and has over a decade of experience working with glass.
